DOT & CHP Compliance: Building a Driver Qualification File
It takes a lot more than a driver’s license to become a fully qualified driver, and even more to prove it to an officer, auditor, or jury. Failing to properly qualify your truck or bus drivers — and failing to have the proper documentation to prove it — is a major source of litigation, penalties, and poor CSA scores.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and California Highway Patrol (CHP) require that all commercial motor vehicle drivers be fully qualified at all times. In many cases, your proof of that is the Driver’s Qualification (DQ) file. Specific steps must be taken — sometimes in a specific order — to build a compliant DQ file and get (and keep) a new driver behind the wheel.
This webinar will describe the types of drivers who need a DQ file or other proof of qualification, and will walk you through the steps that need to be taken to be in full compliance with FMCSA and CHP requirements. It will feature common pitfalls, practical compliance tips, and best practices to help you survive an audit and avoid accidents and penalties.
